Upcharging Invoices

Castro says she doesn’t fluff invoices/charges, however, she couldn’t give me a solid reason for upcharges. She billed $780 for a 1 hour in person meeting and charged it as 2.6 hours. She said it was so she could review the case, but had multiple charges for reviewing documents prior to the in person... meeting. We made a parenting plan during that meeting. Then weeks later when she drafted the paperwork she didn’t write them per our plan we made in the meeting. When I asked about the changes on the paperwork she told me the plan wasn’t possible. The plan we made together at her desk. She didn’t give me a reason for why we made the plan, if it wasn’t possible. I then got $600+ in charges for communication and revisions on the plans. We wouldn’t have needed additional communication or revisions if the paperwork was written per the plan we made. I understand paying for time however I don’t think I should pay for time when it was someone else’s mistakes or misjudgments.

Please refer to the attorney-client engagement letter you signed. I explained the charges you disputed several times. I provided the reasons for the charges (which were not merely a meeting but also drafting legal documents for you). You approved all of the legal documents that were drafted, and you signed them. In addition, you were informed in your attorney-client engagement letter as well as in person that you would be billed for any legal fees after your retainer ran out. All attorney fees and expenses you incurred were necessary and valid. It is unfortunate that you are dissatisfied and feel compelled to tarnish an attorney's reputation. I hope that when others read your review, they will consider the reviews of the majority of my other clients who express their content and appreciation. Best of luck to you.

custody modification

I'm very grateful to have Catherine Casto and her assistant Maddie help me through a stressful time in my life. I'm somewhat of a non-confrontational person, but she helped me to understand my rights and fought for me. I'm so glad I had a true advocate on my side. We fixed problems with my previous c...ustody agreement that had been plaguing me and my children for years. Her rates were very reasonable. She is a good listener and responds promptly to messages. I would definitely work with her again if needed.

No professional

I do not recommend this lawyer. She is not interested in her clients problems, not professional, she is not ready to fight with good lawyers. Do not waste your time and money.I wish I can get my money back.

Excellent lawyer in my divorce

I had a consultation with Catherine 6 months before I finally made the decision to file for divorce. When I called her back, she had all notes from the consultation and was ready to move on filing quickly. She was so helpful throughout the long process of my divorce. She asked me questions about what... I wanted for me and my child and even realized the things I didn’t know I needed (but glad I have now). Our case ended up in court and she was amazing. Thankfully we came to an agreement before the second court date. One of my deciding factors to hiring Catherine was that she is a working mom and understands the hard-to-explain balance of loving your child and wanting the best for your child while also working hard to provide for your child. All billing was clear to understand and she and Erin answered all questions quickly.

I don’t recommend using Catherine Cast for your divorce case.

I hired Catherine to help with my divorce and child custody case. She did not contact me with updates for weeks at a time. She did not send me bills unless asked and did not include the amount left in my retainer on the bills. She was not proactive and empathetic around my concerns regarding my husba...nds mental health issues. She recommended I get a restraining order against my husband and then when the judge would not sign it she emailed “ you can do it yourself” ( putting myself and my sons safety in danger).

Any other case initiated by the client pro se (on their own) is outside the scope of my representation. Please refer to the attorney-client engagement letter you signed. In no way did I ever put you, or any other person in danger. That statement is completely false and impossible. With regards to updates, I make it a practice to update our clients via emails of anything received in or going out of our office. If a client does not hear from us, then there is nothing new to report. We are also mindful to return calls right away. I understand that some clients will never be 100% satisfied with the outcome of his/her case, and it’s easier to blame the attorney for their unhappiness. I hope that when others read your review, they will consider the reviews of the majority of my other clients who express their content and appreciation. Best of luck to you.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
