Michael Winston Kitchens

I have been representing clients in a variety of litigation matters for the past 24 years.  Some of these cases have been rather small matters and others have been cases of national prominence.  For many years I worked with large law firms in Atlanta and New York, but two years ago I established my own firm in Athens, Georgia.  I enjoy representing clients who would otherwise not have a voice in the legal system in cases invovling personal injury, wrongful death, contract disputes, and estate matters. 

Prior to working for large firms, I clerked for the Mississippi Supreme Court in Jackson, Mississippi.  Outside of legal practice, I am active in my church and various civic organizations including service on various boards of directors.  Living in a college town gives me the opportunity to mentor college students and assist in their growth into involved adults. 

I am also passionate about history and historic preservation.  In 2012 I published my first book, Ghosts of Grandeur: Georgia's Lost Antebellum Homes and Plantations.  In 2013 the Independent Book Publishers Association awarded my book with the Gold Medal Benjamin Franklin Award and selected me as the nation's best new author in non-fiction.  In 2018 I published my second book, along with 2 promiment co-authors.  This book is being published by the University Press of Mississippi under the title, Southern Splendor: Savings Architectural Treasures of the Old South. 

I continue to enjoy representing clients in a variety of litigation and pre-litigation matters while I also enjoy active participation in civic organizations and mentoring opportunities.  My first consultation with clients is free.  I look forward to representing you to obtain the recovery you deserve under the law and a just legal system.
