Carlton Joel Davis

Joel Davis has been working in criminal defense for almost a decade, having begun his career as a social worker in Baltimore, Maryland. Tasked with developing mitigation and alternative sentencing, he worked with clients accused of the most serious offenses. This work allowed him to develop an understanding that clients are more than statistics but are real people with real concerns, fears and histories. While working for the Public Defender's Office in Maryland Joel attended the University of Baltimore School of Law. Upon graduating he returned south to begin his legal career in Georgia. Joel continued his career as a mitigation specialist with the State of Georgia Capital Defender's Office. This work brought home the reality that a case is never just a case. He understands that criminal cases are not just a set of facts but are people with rights that deserve the most stringent advocacy. His focus always rests with his clients but he understands that clients come with families and communities that play a critical part in any client's life. Joel went on to be an associate attorney at Lister and Holt. While at Lister and Holt, he represented hundreds of clients in the State Court of Clayton County. During his time at Lister and Holt, he handled cases that ranged from violations of minor county ordinances to driving under the influence and honed his trial skills while providing his clients with the representation they deserve. Beginning in 2011 Joel became an assistant public defender in the Paulding Judicial Circuit. Representing clients in matters ranging from misdemeanor charges to major felonies, he developed an excellent working relationship with the District Attorney's Office, aiding his clients in achieving the optimal outcomes in their cases. After gaining years of valuable trial experience, he decided to transition into private practice. Davis and Jones is dedicated to the vigorous defense of any client in Georgia.
