Unprofessional and Unreliable

On May 14th we (my mortgage lender, real estate agent and myself) hired Scott Baker and his agency to perform a Title Search on a home that I was in the process of purchasing. My real estate agent contacted Scott first and while speaking with him, asked him to contact me. A week went by and I didn't ...hear from him, so I called him. Scott said he was out of town (in Florida) and that was the reason he did not contact me. Scott assured me that they were working on the Title Search and would finish everything very soon. Several more weeks went by and my Mortgage lender called saying he was concerned that we were going to have to file a 2nd contract extension because of the amount of time that the Title Search was taking. My mortgage lender also said he had been calling Scott's office to expedite the search and no one was returning his call. Finally, he got through and Scott said he was spending some time with his wife and that he thought he could finish everything by Friday June 26th. Since so many weeks had past, I emailed Scott for a confirmation of that projected completion date. Scott replied "We can't make any guarantees but we hope to have Casey what he needs very soon". He didn't. Scott missed yet another deadline. So, I emailed him again telling him that if he could not get the work done we would have to hire another agency. Scott replied "We are happy to give up the file if you wish. Just let Teresa at our office know." So, we finally fired him and started over. Our new attorney, on his third day, has gotten more work done than Scott Baker did in 7 weeks. While there is no guarantee that you will experience the same kind of poor service (complimented with the wise guy attitude) such as we we received, I believe that leopards rarely change their spots. Scott Baker was hired on May 2015 & fired on June 29th 2015. RWS

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
