Not really on your side

I hired him after my husband had a three year affair. He was recommended from an acquaintance. I was young, naive, and very vulnerable. He would yell at me, talk down to me, and even told me to shut up in front KC my soon to be ex and his lawyer. There were so many more things I could have gotten... if I would have known what to ask for. But he was supposed to be my protector… not the case!

Sexist comments and bullying

After a social worker friend referred me, I retained Howard Gold for my divorce and custody dispute. He was rude, made sexist and suggestive comments, came to court late (and charged me for the extra time since we were bumped to the back of the log) and charged me to give me information he’d already... told me about. I later found out from two different women that they had similar experiences to mine. Think before you hairs this man!

Post-Divorce Matters

I was referred to Howard Gold by a friend who retained him for her divorce. My initial phone consultation went well, and then I met him in person, and he was abrasive in his conversational style. Notwithstanding my initial impression, I proceeded to retain him based on my friend’s previous experience... about Howard and my belief Howard would represent my best interests. Unfortunately, this was an erroneous belief on my part, in retrospect. I proceeded to pay him a $5,000 retainer, for which I was never given a line-item invoice with dates/hours for services rendered. Interestingly, my new attorney I hired after letting Howard go provides me with these invoices for services rendered. During the course of my engagement with Howard, I had a separate issue arise from the one I initially retained him for, and I contacted him about this issue. I expected his response to be something along the line of “Hey, let’s meet and discuss this and our strategy.” Instead he sent me an email that basically stated to send him another $5,000. I am not a legal scholar, so I have no objective yardstick to measure his knowledge of the law. Notwithstanding this, I think Howard knows the law. But when hiring a lawyer, understanding the law isn’t the only deciding factor. It’s important the person can engage in a meaningful conversation. I had one final meeting with Howard in person and he mistreated me. It was at that time I realized Howard and I were not a good fit, and we needed to part ways

Think before you hire him

I went to Howard the summer of 2017. He kindly welcomed me and asked about my case, firmly telling me to only answer what he asked. He received a phone call from a client and he yelled at his client during all the conversation. That should have been an indicator for me of how he was about to treat m...e, but I trusted his reviews, the fact that he says he had been a psychotherapist, and his internet claims that he had defended special needs children. I am a teacher and a single mother who was fighting for the custody of her teenager with Asperger's. I hired him giving him a $5000 retainer. During our second meeting, a couple weeks later, he welcomed me kindly again. He closed his office door and started questioning me about my case information. I told him that I had sent him the information in my emails for which I knew he had already charged me but he said he did not remember my information since he had many cases. I tried to tell him the information that he did not remember and he started yelling and told me that my "f------" information was not important to the case. He asked me questions loudly and continuously screamed at me directing me to only answer what he asked me. At one point I stopped looking at him because I was terrified of the monster he had become. He yelled saying LOOK AT ME with his hand shaking. He continued screaming and questioned me if I spoke English. As I got up to leave, he changed completely and smiled kindly saying that I had good information for the case. He sent me to his assistant who kindly asked me for a second $5000 retainer to continue with the case! Howard called me the next day to apologize and to ask me not to give him bad reviews in the internet. A couple days later I sent him a letter asking him to withdraw from my case and he did. I am here to warn any one like me who trusted how nicely he portrays himself on the internet. He may mistreat you, he may have a hard time remembering your case information when he has already charged you for it, and he may take your money with no mercy. He claims to have been a psychotherapist, but I truly feel he needs a psychotherapist himself. He intimidated me, humilliated me, and charged me for that meeting, as well as for emails that if he read, he sure could no longer remember their information.
