TA was charged in DeKalb County Juvenile Court with hitting and biting a school resource officer and another school employee. After a thorough investigation, we were able to show to the State and the ... Court with documentation from experts that TA's actions were a result of his disorder. His actions were not intentional and therefore he could not be held criminally responsible. The State and the Court agreed and withdrew the Petition against TA and dismissed the case.

OUTCOME: No Jail Time

DC was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance in Fulton County. DC was on probation for Possession of Heroin and facing significant prison time on his probation revocation. DC had been add ... icted to drugs for a number of years and had never received help. With the help of the Georgia Recovery Center, I was able to show to the prosecutor and the judge that DC wanted to and needed to get help and that prison was not the solution. The prosecutor and the judge agreed and sentenced DC to probation and ran it concurrent with the probation he was already serving. The court agreed to suspend DC's probation after he successfully completes his outpatient treatment at the Georgia Recovery Center. DC has remained clean since his plea.

OUTCOME: No Jail Time

JFB was charged with four counts of Identity Fraud and one count of Financial Transaction Card Fraud in Cobb County Superior Court. JFB was hired as an accountant and as a type of advisor for a cleain ... g service. JFB had opened a number of credit cards in the business's name and in the name of the employer. Charges were brought against JFB because the employer stated that JFB had open those accounts without her authority. Our investigation showed that there was evidence to suggest that JFB was authorized to open those accounts. After a series of lengthy negotiations, I was able to convince the prosecutor to allow my client to receive a sentence of probation instead of prison.

PK was able to avoid a severe penalty for his actions and was ordered only to pay a fine.

Limo License Hearing for JW

OUTCOME: Limo License Issued

JW was 38 years old and was attempting to start his own limo service. He had completed all of the training, purchased a vehicle, and obtained insurance coverage. All he needed was his limo license. ... JW was a convicted felon who had 17 prior felony convictions. All of his convictions were from the age of 16 to 28. JW had not had a felony conviction in almost 10 years. However, the board in charge of issuing the limo license to JW declined to give him one because of his lengthy criminal background. At a hearing before the board, I was able to convince them to give JW a second chance and they did.

After a thorough investigation and lengthy negotiations, I was able to have the case against TM dismissed prior to any indictment being drawn. In addition, I was able to recover 20K of the 28K dollars seized; and I was able to help TM keep his alcohol license.

When I met KK, she was on First Offender probation for one felony on one indictment and two felonies on another indictment. KK violated her First Offender probation by catching four new felony charges ... . I was able to show to the Court with documentation and experts that all of KK's charges (past and present) were related to her addiction to drugs. The Court agreed to reinstate KK's First Offender probation and to allow her to plead under the Drug First Offender statute on her new charges. At the end of the day, KK was given a chance to start over without having any felony convictions.

During a sentencing hearing, I was able to persuade the Judge to sentence MC to probation.

OUTCOME: 2 years for 4 Attempted Armed Robberies

RR was charged in 2 separate indictments with committing 4 attempted armed robberies, 4 counts of possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, and one count of discharging a firearm. RR pull ... ed out a gun and demanded money from all 4 individuals. RR fired a number of rounds near one of the victim's feet. RR was arrested near the scene and the gun used was found in RR's car. RR gave a statement to the police placing her at the scene of the crimes. All 4 victims identified the gun and RR as the person who attempted to rob them. The State recommended that RR receive a sentence of 10 years with 8 years in prison. After a lengthy sentencing hearing with experts, family members, and arguments from counsel, the Court sentenced RR to 15 years with the first 2 years in prison and the rest on probation. The Judge also allowed RR to plead guilty under the First Offender Act so that RR's record would be sealed at the end of the 15 years.
