Alden advises in-house counsel and human resources and benefits personnel on compliance matters related to retirement plans and health and welfare plans.

Alden’s practice includes:

• Analyzing health and welfare plan compliance with Health Care Reform, ERISA, and other federal laws.
• Assisting employers with various aspects related to qualified retirement plans including ERISA and tax compliance, drafting, and operational issues.
• Evaluating death benefits in defined contribution plans including the use of default beneficiary hierarchies, the minimum required distribution rules, and small estate affidavits.
• Advising employers on day-to-day administrative issues such as QMCSOs, corrections to various tax forms related to payroll, QDROs, and garnishment orders.

Compliance is an important function in employee benefits law, as it is vital for the success of all businesses. Alden’s detail oriented nature, and appreciation for the intricacies of the tax code and ERISA, allows her to creatively solve problems for clients often before they occur.
