Divorce with successful mediation

Twice in the last 5 years I have used Ryan’s firm. When I needed an attorney for my recent divorce I did not hesitate in contacting Ryan’s firm. Ryan just represented me in what turned into a very contentious divorce. Over a period of 18 months Ryan guided me through this most challenging process and... helped me to keep my focus. He took the lead as needed with the opposing attorney with efforts to direct and refocus the process. I asked my wife at one time why she was dragging the divorce out and she answered, “Well I am just doing what my attorney wants!” The best thing I can say about Ryan is that he always gave me options on how to proceed and what the costs would be to proceed in different directions. We were finally able to schedule a mediation after several attempts and we were successful in settling the terms of the divorce. Ryan took the lead in writing up the agreement while we were in mediation and my wife and I both signed it that same day. Ryan then proceeded to ask me if I wanted him to write up the formal document. I am glad I agreed to have Ryan write it up because he had it to my wife’s attorney in just a few days. After they received it they responded with minor changes and we had an agreement that I was satisfied with. It was then submitted to the judge for approval and we were divorced in just a few weeks. When I first met with Ryan he outlined his fees and then proceeded to give me several options to reduce the cost by utilizing other levels of expertise in his firm. I chose to have Ryan take the lead. I only have good things to say about his support team. They were very thoughtful in how they interacted with me and kept me informed about the status of everything.

Cost me a lot of money

In my divorce, it almost felt like Ryan was working for my ex-wife instead of me. In addition to paying a steep amount for alimony and child support (half of my monthly take-home pay), I also had to pay for my children's health insurance and 75% of uncovered medical expenses. 75%, not 50%. When I que...stioned Ryan about this, he said, "Well I know what the judges will agree to in cases like yours, so we should go with this." I would have liked for Ryan to at least TRY for better terms for me, instead of offering so much up front. In addition to the bad terms for me, I also found several errors in the wording of the divorce that would have cost me even more money if I hadn't caught them. The final blow came when he burned through the first retainer payment, which was a lot of money, then wanted more. My divorce was pretty cut and dry, nothing unusual, and I felt like it should have been handled quickly and that he should have fought for the best terms possible for me. It felt like he was doing what was easier for him, instead of what was best for me.
