To file a garnishment the creditor would have to sue you and get a judgment. If you were not properly served you may be able to have the judgment...

You might be able to file a chapter 13 bankruptcy and pay on the student loan debt. Most sudent loan debt cannot be discharged in bankruptcy.

You should consult an attorney. Depending on the last time youi made a payment the debt may be old and outside the statute of limitations.
