"The best thing that has happened in Georgia for justice is the establishment of a statewide public defender system. I did my turn on the county list of lawyers who would take appointed work, and then was asked to stay on for years because of the dearth of experienced lawyers who would take appointments. It was obvious that a lot of people were going without good representation. When the state finally established a PD system, things started looking up.
