also known as Cindy Nelson
Cindy Nelson is an attorney and founder of Nelson Elder Care Law in Woodstock, Ga. She specializes in offering peace of mind to families and their loved ones. Most of us over 50 years of age have three primary concerns;
1. Running out of money
2. Becoming a burden on our loved ones
3. Losing our independence
As an Elder Law Attorney, Cindy helps you navigate the complexities of the law, finances, healthcare, and medical benefits which are so critical to aging. This includes guiding families that are trying to afford the high cost of nursing home care, protecting assets so an aging family member can live a life of dignity, working closely with clients and their families on estate planning, preparing critical decision-making documents, and advising families about options to avoid a crisis situation in the future.
Throughout her career in elder care law, Ms. Nelson has developed strategic relationships with state and federal legislators on behalf of Georgia Gerontology Society and the Area Agencies on Aging throughout Georgia. Most recently, Ms. Nelson was instrumental in strengthening Georgia legislation against elder abuse by the passage of HB78, the Elder Abuse Protection Modernization Act; securing an additional $2.7 million for senior services in Georgia for FY2015; and the implementation of the Georgia Alzheimer and Related Dementia plan. Ms. Nelson has lived in northwest Georgia for more than 20 years and is passionate about improving life for Georgians as we age.
Prior to founding Nelson Elder Care Law, Ms. Nelson worked for a non-profit elder care law clinic, an elder law legal firm, the Georgia Long-term Care Ombudsman, a Superior Court Judge, and Cobb County Probate Judge Wolk.
Before her passion for elder care law, Ms. Nelson spent nearly 25 years working in the Information Technology sector for Fortune 100 companies. During this time, she developed an appreciation for the complexities associated with elder care law. She enrolled and received her Juris Doctorate from Southern Illinois University School of Law, where she was the recipient of the Lesar Scholarship for high achievement.
Ms. Nelson graduated cum laude from Millikin University with a bachelor’s degree in science. She is a member of the Georgia Bar, the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys, the Blue Ridge Bar Association and the Cherokee County Volunteer Aging Coucil. She and her husband, Randy, have four children and three rescue dogs.
