Compassionate and Competent

Mrs. Kayla Upchurch, Esq. was referred to me by a well known, highly respected divorce lawyer who mentors and trains successful family attorneys. My case was a high conflict and contentious divorce. So, after being mishandled and wrongly advised for almost a year, I was disgusted with doing my own le...gal research, and I hired Kayla! I needed someone I could trust who knew what to expect from certain judges, was seasoned, respected, understood the process in my district, and put me at ease. It’s important that your lawyer has relationships with key people so you don’t waste your time and money with them trying to learn the unspoken rules. My ex has an untreated mental illness which resulted in delays, frivolous claims, bogus accusations, threats, and various motions to compel. However, Kayla stood up to the opposing counsel, their claims and drama while also encouraging and teaching me! I’m grateful she helped me see the bright side of things, and corrected me with kindness and professionalism. Ultimately, we faired well after the worst season of my life. Kayla is a wise, well-rounded, compassionate lawyer with a diverse background who knows the law. I never had to look up Georgia statutes because I trusted her advice. She is a real asset to her clients and colleagues. I didn’t have a chance to see her as a bulldog in the courtroom, like others have noted, because she kept me from interacting with the judge. So, if Kayla could get me out of a legal mess, she’ll do the same for you. Now, after multiple judges and attorneys, I am finally divorced. Thank you Kayla! I would not recommend anyone else for your family law needs.

Bold and Fierce!

Kayla was our attorney in a particularly litigious child custody/divorce case. She is bold and fierce but at the same time sweet and respectful! The way she honors her client and becomes a voice they never had is awe inspiring. Seeing her in action in the courtroom was worth every cent. Professiona...l, diligent, friendly and knows her stuff! Amazing woman and a force to be reckoned with! What a super star! I highly recommend Ms. Upchurch if you are looking for an attorney who specializes in child custody, divorce, and protective orders.

Talented Attorney

I would like to personally thank Kayla Upchurch, Attorney MT&T, for her relentless work on my divorce. My divorce had to be one of the most frustrating cases imaginable. My spouse initially filed for divorce but did everything possible to prevent it from proceeding. She and her attorney’s approach... to the case was to stall, and make it financially costly, with hopes that I would reconsider my counterclaim. This case destroyed my relationship with my teenage son, even though I did my absolute best to keep him from being involved. He lives with his mother and has little to no room to think independently. He was forced to pick a “side” knowing the consequences at home if he didn’t choose his mother. In my opinion my case was clearly parental alienation, but the family court system is not in favor of the father unless physical abuse is present. They did not consider the long-term emotional/mental effects of a child having to choose between his parents. Kayla kept me focused on what I could do to get my case settled but not to give more than I was comfortable with. She was aggressive when required and more than willing to fight for my best interest. Kayla was honest with me throughout the entire case even when she knew that what she had to say was not something I wanted to hear. She made it clear early on that there was no “fair” divorce, and both sides should be willing to “give” a little. My divorce has taken almost three years because the opposing party didn’t feel it necessary to "give” in any area. If Cherokee County courts had allowed my case to be heard and simply go to trial, it would have been less costly. The most frustrating things about my divorce was the judge’s refusal to hear my case, even after 2 ½ years of litigation and multiple mediations, and the fact that the plaintiff was allowed to prolong the divorce process that she initiated. My case did not go as I had hoped, but financially the opposing party costed herself thousands of dollars by delaying the case and refusing to mediate in good faith. I had hoped that my divorce would have been civil and would limit my teenage son’s involvement in the process, but my ex-spouse involved him from start to finish. He was used by her which is very sad. If you are looking for a young aggressive, but professional attorney, Kayla Upchurch is the attorney for you. At the end Kayla and the M&T team saved me a very large amount in equitable division/property division due to their strategic decisions making throughout the case.

Excellent

I cannot thank Meriwether and Tharp’s attorney Kayla Upchurch enough for her guidance through the divorce process. She held my hand through the whole ordeal and even helped keep my costs down. Once the divorce decree was finalized, the coronavirus caused serious issues with our child custody arrangem...ents. I again retained Kayla to help me in a custody battle during covid. Life was already hard enough, she helped me navigate through a very uncertain time when basically the world was shut down. Her professionalism, quick response time and easy demeanor gave me the tools, advice and compassion I needed to get myself and my daughter to the other side of divorce. Again, I cannot thank her and the entire team enough for their services. I highly recommend the firm and Kayla for any of your legal divorce matters.

Kayla Upchurch - A phenomenal divorce attorney

I'm not sure where to begin, but I cannot say enough about attorney, Kayla Upchurch. She is truly a phenomenal attorney! I entered the divorce arena weary and worn after an extremely difficult marriage. However, due to her zeal for helping others, calm demeanor, and prowess for navigating the legal ...system, she helped me navigate the murky waters of my divorce. Countless times, I was overwhelmed with anxiety because my "opponent" was financially stable and street savvy, yet I was a stay-at-home mother with limited resources. Nevertheless, Ms. Upchurch explained the strengths of my case and helped me regain my dignity and peace of mind. If you're looking for a highly competent, yet personable divorce attorney, look no further. Ms. Upchurch is the perfect balance of passion, compassion and practicality. Her level of expertise, professionalism and responsiveness is second to none. Though no one wants to go through a divorce, if you must, I highly recommend Ms. Kayla Upchurch.
