Do NOT hire this firm!

I hired Stephanie Steele's law firm to help me obtain a letter of Testamentary for my husband's one investment account. He had just passed away. Spoke to a guy name Chad that told me that if I didn't give them a $3500 retainer up front they wouldn't do anything. I gave them the money. Weeks go by ...and they ask for another $3500 replenishment. I asked why? I've never paid $7000, not spoken to anyone, had no explanations, just requests for replenishment with an invoice listing bogus fees. They filed a Year's Support that I didn't need, but charged me for. After 4 months, I finally got to speak with Ms. Steele. I told her that from my first call all I needed was the letter of Testamentary. They finally filled for that and asked for another $3500. We'd be at $10,500 with that request. I told her that she wasn't getting any more money. The next day, her paralegal called and told me to go down to Probate myself and maybe, I'd get the letter. I called Probate, the lady told me to come down and give a sworn oath, which the law firm didn't tell me was necessary. Went down to get the ball rolling. Gave the oath and they got the Letter of Testamentary signed right then. Wasted 5 months and $7000. When I asked for a credit, she's billed me another $1800. They're billing crazy! They need to learn to be assistance, customer service and to communicate without billing every second.

Ms. McFarland, we are sorry you were not satisfied with your services. We strive to provide excellent service and clients are welcome to schedule meetings and calls with their legal team at any time to discuss concerns as they arise. There are several attorneys and paralegals working with the firm and they are assigned to different cases. Ms. Steele was not assigned to your case. The work we do as legal advisors cannot be done by non-attorneys, including court clerks. If you have any additional concerns, we are open to discussing them with you directly.

Unorganized and Incompetent

Worst experience ever with a law firm. My case was simply submitting an uncontested Will with one sole beneficiary – and Steele Law Firm made a mess of my case. Steele Law Firm failed to file necessary paperwork on time with the court system and failed to submit court cost fees – causing the court... to stop my case. Administrative staff was unorganized and incompetent. Anytime I called or emailed – staff was clueless as to what stage my case was in. I also received emails - instructing me to complete steps that had already been completed in the past. I even received a phone call - halfway thru my case – asking if I would like to “Become a Client of Steele Law Firm.” This law firm still did not know I was already client of theirs – even halfway thru my case. I finally had to release Steele Law Firm – and hire another attorney to finish up the case – resulting in thousands of dollars lost, stress, and time lost. Bottom line is – do not use Steele Law firm. I do not wish this horrible experience upon anyone, especially after just losing a loved one.

Poor Service

I hired Steele Law to handle my husband's estate. It has been a terrible experience. They were slow to file necessary paperwork. They were unresponsive. I also received incorrect information from at least 2 of their employees. Even. The attorney whose name is on the marquis did not call when she said... she would. Incompetent and unprofessional.

Unresponsive, Ineffective, Costly

I hired this attorney last summer to defend myself and my children in a divorce case against my abusive spouse who had numerous extra-marital affairs. There was tremendous documentation. However, shortly after hiring Ms. Steele, the following occurred: * Made two last-minute questionable cancella...tions of our mediation, each needing to be rescheduled to a later date. * Was late to the third scheduled mediation * Was unprepared for the mediation - could not remember my children's names, what the issues were, and what points we were willing to negotiate * Was unable to stand up to the tactics of opposing counsel * Recommended that I accept opposing counsel's 'offer' which would not only have been salt in open wounds, but would have left me penniless and without my children * Would not respond to emails, phone messages or provide updates * Would not file necessary actions * Churned fees - e.g. 3 administrative staff would communicate and send files to one another who would then send me the same message to me two-three times, charging for each. Bills were vague and could not be substantiated After approximately 12 weeks, I released Ms. Steele and Manely & company, and hired a different family law attorney. The result was achieving nearly everything that I was seeking from the beginning. Steele-Manely firm cost me over $9,000, three months of prolonged turmoil, depression, and angst, and positioned me poorly for the remainder of the divorce. Fortunately, I was able to salvage the damage, but again, at great financial, emotional, and family expense. Don't believe the introductory sales pitch - it is just that - a sales pitch.
