Mr. Browning has gained over thirty years of experience in domestic relations. He is well respected among Family Law lawyers. He has represented many notable clients while handling numerous cases in the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Georgia.

Since 2011 Mr. Browning has been recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer. He is also an AV rated lawyer by Martindale Hubbell.

Mr. Browning received his Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Oglethorpe University in 1967. In 1973, he graduated Magna Cum Laude and received his Juris Doctorate from Woodrow Wilson College of Law, where he served as editor of the Woodrow Wilson Yearbook, Verdict, that same year. Mr. Browning was then admitted to the State Bar of Georgia. He worked as a Law Clerk to Judge Luther C. Hames of the Cobb Superior Court for two years and learned the invaluable ins and outs of the justice system.

Following his clerkship with Judge Hames, he entered private practice with former Governor Roy E. Barnes where they worked together for twenty-three years before Barnes became Governor. For seventeen years he was associated with former Supreme Court Justice, George T. Smith and in 2002 Browning & Smith was formed. In 2010 Justice Smith passed away.

Mr. Browning is actively involved in several civic organizations in the City of Marietta. Mr. Browning has held leadership positions including; trustee at Joseph T. Walker School, chairman of Downtown Marietta Development Authority and a member of the board for Atlanta Lyric Theatre. Mr. Browning is a member of the Marietta First United Methodist Church and served as director of Georgia State Bank. He has fifteen years experience as Chairman of the Institute of Continuing Legal Education Successful Trial Practice Seminar. Mr. Browning is known for his ability and is highly regarded, both personally and professionally. Tom is very smart, detailed, and experienced!

Tom has been my lawyer through my divorce and helped me gain full custody of my kids among other things I was fighting my ex for. He and his staff always made me feel like I was their most important case. Although he is a highly sought after attorney in Marietta, Tom always had time for me and never ...rushed our meetings or rescheduled anything, which I've known other attorneys to do. He took lots of time going over everything with me pretrial and made sure we were prepared for anything and everything that would come up. I also found that he had spent lots of his own time preparing and learning everything about my case as well. At the trial, we had lots of evidence against my ex that Tom had advised me to collect and our case was solid. When I watched his strategy play out in court, it was genius. My ex's attorney had built a strong case against me and I know if I did not have Tom to defend me there is a good chance I would have lost. Tom definitely made justice prevail that day and shined a light on how trivial their case was against me. The years of experience and knowledge of the law show through his actions and approach throughout the trial. I felt that I was represented better than than I could have ever hoped for. We ended up leaving with more than what I thought we could and best of all, my kids are home safe with me everyday. I know that I owe that all to Tom and his staff. I am so very grateful to have Tom as my attorney. If you want to win your case, I suggest you call Tom! And let's just hope he isn't representing someone against you!!

Best Family Law Attorney in Metro Atlanta

Mr. Browning handled my divorce two years ago. I was an emotional wreck and totally at a loss of what to do as my marriage was unravelling. Tom Browning was so incredibly knowledgeable about divorce, what I was entitled to, how to go about getting a settlement done quickly as I did not want a trial-...just to be done and move on! I will never forget his kindness and responsiveness to my distress - divorce is tough. He answered all my questions and always returned my calls. My ex's attorney really became easier to work with once I hired Tom as he is greatly respected in the legal community, I know because I asked around. I felt my divorce was handle professionally and quickly by Tom and his firm.

Review of Tom Browning

Tom Browning was my divorce lawyer. I had a strong case but that doesn't mean much unless it's presented by an attorney like Tom who the Court knows and trusts, as I have come to find out. My ex's attorney was pulling all kind of shenanigans and instead of responding eye-for-eye and running up my bil...l, Tom assured me I would be okay. I was very nervous about that. In the end I was ok; he kept his fees very reasonable; and he was right. I would say Tom's weak point is in responding to calls (terrible) and keeping me informed. Divorce is harrowing enough without having to wonder whether your attorney is doing his job. Also I'm pretty astute about legal matters and did a lot of trial preparation (evidence prep) myself, without his suggestion or direction...which I felt he should have given me (the evidence I prepared turned out to be very useful). Other complaints - he once did not show up for a post-judgment hearing and neither called me, the opposing lawyer, nor the court. Also in submitting the draft judgment to the Court for consideration in its award (both sides were asked to do this) - I wrote mine and gave it to Tom to submit. He did that and the Court granted about 95% of what I had asked for - but Tom left off a critical attachment and that caused the post-judgment issues. In summary if you have a good case and can be an effective member of your own team to manage your case -Tom is an honest and likable man who I believe is held in high esteem in the Courts, and who will guide you through the process. On the other hand - if you want to put everything in your attorney's hands and expect a well-managed case and a communicative attorney, you may be disappointed.
