Cindy’s family moved to Charleston, South Carolina from Sacramento when she was three. She completed her college education at the University of South Carolina. When her family relocated back to California, she received her law degree at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. “I was honored,” she said, “to be taught constitutional law by the Honorable Anthony Kennedy, later Judge of the U.S. Supreme Court.”
She started her own practice in 1991 – the Law Offices of Cynthia L. White -- in Rosamond, California. “I was known as the ‘Great White,’ and had a shark on my business card and advertisements. About five years into my practice, I began taking family law cases. When I closed my office after 30 years, about 90 percent of my practice was in family law.”
“Over a period of five years, my family slowly relocated to Georgia,” said Cindy. “Deciding I didn’t want to live so far away from them, especially my mother, who was well into her 80s, I closed my office in California and relocated to Cumming in June 2022.”
Cindy explained that a firm is only as good as its partners, attorneys, and staff. “Right away, I could see that Mary [Montgomery] was straightforward, personable, and more than willing to guide me in making the adjustment from California law to a Georgia practice. She also can ease the transition from my sole practice of decades to the ability to work with a team. SM&P is known for its teamwork. When I met several members of the firm, it clinched my decision to work with them.”
“Cindy has an extensive litigation background,” said Mary. “She also has the personality required for the rigors of family law and ample experience in handling a variety of cases and all aspects of running a law office. She will be a great addition to our Alpharetta office.”
“My reputation as an individual with tons of integrity is invaluable to me. I am no-nonsense, fight hard for children and clients, and am very reasonable and practical with advice, very compassionate with client needs and concerns, and successfully steer them through their cases.”
Cindy had several repeat clients, clients who had previously been the opposing party in a prior case, court personnel, law enforcement, and even multiple referrals from officers and deputies to their arrestees. “Clients routinely gave me gifts of shark mementos. It was not uncommon for a client to hug me in court at the end of our case.”
Clients describe her as honest, blunt, prepared, and helpful in understanding the process and court orders, in short - an excellent shield/defender for them. “I believe I had an exceptional reputation as a knowledgeable, compassionate, and successful ‘shark’ to my clients,” Cindy said.

She l apologized after - said she had a long day, but the experience rubbed me the wrong way. Her staff was great and alwa...

Beware
I have to say that this was a hard review to write, because I really enjoyed working with Ms. White. She was spot on as a lawyer and handled my case very well. However he staff is completely incompetent, forgetful and disrespectful. Any time I would have to deal with her staff I dreaded it, they lost...

Can I give her lower than one star?
She was recommended to me to do my divorce. Had consultation last May (Nine months ago) and have not heard from her since. $4000 retainer down the crapper. She has not filed a response to my husband's divorce filing which was filed last June. I think her assistant does her work. When I try to co...
This was a client that thought she could pay a fee and make her ex go away. It doesn't work that way. She was very unhappy, but refused to provide the information requested to move her case forward. Most of her retainer was used asking for the same information repeatedly. Whether it is me or another attorney, help us help you. The only things I know about your life is what you tell me. In order to prepare paperwork for filing, information must be provided by the client. In order to prove a case, I frequently need back up to prove your claim or position. Your attorney is there to help you. I am NEVER my client's enemy, but sometimes I am the bearer of bad news. I always regret have an unhappy client. I can't say it never happens, but it's rare.
