John C. Bennett

I was drawn to John Bennett when I had professional exposure as a Buyer's agent and he represented an elderly man that was selling. Bennett was gentle with this client and a good advocate. Two years ago, I had a difficult transaction coming up in selling my own home that was shared with my ex-hus...band. I met with Mr. Bennett for 30 minutes, explaining and emphasizing the difficult divorce (abuse and addiction) and that special attention would be needed to close the transaction. I explained my ex could be low functioning, and would require a text to alert him to any incoming emails. Mr. Bennett seemed receptive and responsible and I left feeling reassured. After that, Mr. Bennett's actions only compounded the trauma of dealing with my ex-husband (after 3 years of no contact). There was no attention given to the fragile dynamics. It was as if our preliminary conversation never happened. He did not align distributions on the proposed Closing Statement according to our Divorce Settlement. He treated my ex-husband as his client- communicating with my ex in some cases- and not me. At the end, Bennett's office sent the proposed settlement statement to my ex-husband to review before me. It was incorrect and tilted in my ex-husbands favor. All Bennett's actions required my involvement to correct numbers and communications when I was hoping for an advocate. I would rank him more as my adversary in this painful transaction. Right on the heels of this, I dealt with him again in a professional context. He was fair and clear, representing a male local business owner as his client as a Seller. I waited until all professional associations were complete before leaving this review. I hope to never encounter him again in my profession. From my few transactions with him, I was left with an impression that maybe he was a better lawyer when representing men.
