I reached out to Madeline due to a complaint concerning one of the staff attorneys at Pisgah Legal Services after he had put my 89 year old mother who is legally blind and partially deaf at risk. Casey Steen an attorney at Pisgah Legal Services encouraged my mother via the telephone to voluntarily di...smiss an exparte Restraining Order because of his personal dislike of Patricia Young the judge presiding over this case: he assured my mom she would be as safe with posting no trespassing signs on her property. The defendant in this case suffers from a mental disorder and was deemed unstable and dangerous. When I contacted Ms. Offen with my concerns that this action put my mom at risk she reiterated Mr. Steen's advice and insisted a no trespassing sign was as effective as a Restraining Order. She is wrong. A Restraining Order is court ordered and is a Class 1 misdemeanor with jail time and serious fines when violated. She is incompetent in her position as well as Casey Steen.
