As a native of Salisbury, North Carolina, Angela Hatley began her career in 1984 as a graduate of the UNC School of Nursing. She worked as a full time registered nurse at a large teaching hospital where oftentimes she would find herself acting as an advocate for her patients to make sure they received the care they deserved.

While in nursing school at Chapel Hill, Angela Hatley learned the importance of being a strong advocate and voice for others. She saw a need for people to have someone stand up and represent them. After finishing her time working at a large teaching hospital, Angela Hatley decided to go back to graduate school and pursue a formal legal education, building on the advocacy skills she had already developed.

In 1993, Angela Hatley graduated with honors from Campbell University School of Law. She began practicing law at the firm of Armstrong and Armstrong, P.A., before finally relocating to Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she opened up her own practice.
