Not the Right Fit for High-Conflict Family Litigation

My wife and I retained Christopher Miller and his firm to help navigate an already difficult and contentious family matter. Unfortunately, after investing substantial time, money, and emotional energy, we found ourselves with more litigation, more conflict, and less confidence than when we began. ...From my perspective, our case never felt like a priority. We spent a year reacting to the opposing side rather than pursuing a proactive strategy with clear, measurable goals. As the conflict escalated, we did not see the level of assertiveness or urgency we expected, particularly when it came to addressing what we viewed as repeated retaliatory tactics and unnecessary escalation directed at our family. What became especially frustrating was that nearly every communication, allegation, or action initiated by opposing counsel resulted in additional fees. It often felt as though we were paying to respond to the next threat or accusation rather than advancing a strategy designed to resolve the underlying issues. For families with limited resources, this approach is simply unsustainable. No attorney can control an opposing party or guarantee results. However, clients deserve more than a reactive posture. They deserve clear goals, accountability, and advocacy focused on achieving defined objectives rather than simply managing conflict. Most troubling, after paying a separate trust deposit for representation in a matter brought against me personally, I found myself without counsel immediately before an important hearing. The emotional and financial toll this placed on our family was substantial. One of our biggest takeaways from this experience is that family law attorneys need to do a better job establishing actionable goals and defining what success looks like. Most families do not have unlimited resources, and clients deserve to understand how each dollar spent is moving them closer to a specific objective. If your divorce or custody matter is relatively straightforward, your experience may differ. However, if you are facing a highly contentious case involving aggressive opposing counsel, repeated allegations, and constant escalation, I would strongly encourage you to carefully consider whether Miller Cushing Holladay PLLC is the right fit. In our experience, the value received simply did not justify the cost, and we ultimately found ourselves in a worse position emotionally, financially, and procedurally than when we started. For those facing a high-conflict divorce or custody matter, my advice is simple: ask your attorney to define success, establish measurable goals, and explain how each dollar spent is moving you toward those goals. We wish we had done so much sooner.

0/5 stars; go elsewhere!

Unfortunately, I hired Chris as my legal counsel before reading his reviews on this site. He was way too expensive for the poor results he produced and he was extremely incompetent.

Detail oriented and up front

Chris takes his time making sure we have looked at every option I have in my case, and always does a "cost/benefit" analysis to help me decide which option to pursue. I feel like I had the best representation for my divorce.

Amazing advocate

Chris helped me with my family issue. He has done so much to support my daughter and I - words cannot describe. Any time I can tell someone to hire Chris, I shout his name from the rooftops! He is so knowledgeable on real world issues relating to finances, and yet is empathetic about life as a par...ent. 100% recommend Chris.
