Sean F. Herrmann has successfully represented employees in race, sex, pregnancy, national origin, disability, veteran, and age discrimination matters. He fights for employees facing unlawful pay practices and sexual harassment at the workplace. Sean regularly represents whistleblower clients facing illegal retaliation. He also has extensive experience with workplace torts and civil rights abuses. He has assisted many executives and employees with their employment contracts, non-competes, and severance packages.
Sean’s desire to represent employees is nothing new. He went about accumulating valuable experience before joining Van Kampen Law that he employs every day to provide his clients the best representation possible. Between 2005 and 2009, Sean attended Illinois College where he triple-majored in Political Science, International Studies, and Spanish. He graduated summa cum laude and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. During his junior year at Illinois College, Sean completed an internship at the United States Attorneys’ Office in Washington, DC. In that role, he first encountered the world of employment law while working extensively on a Title VII sex discrimination lawsuit, which he saw through to the trial’s completion.
Sean left Washington for Seville, Spain, where he researched immigration from Africa into the European Union and interned at an immigrant rights non-governmental organization. These experiences set Sean on the path to representing employees whose rights have been violated.
To that end, in 2012, Sean received his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law where he graduated with magna cum laude honors. There, he earned CALI awards in Employment Discrimination, Labor Law, and the Civil Litigation Clinic.
Sean also completed an externship with the Honorable Tom M. Lytton of the Illinois Appellate Court, and was a Law Clerk at Freking & Betz, LLC, the largest plaintiff-side employment law firm in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a Notes Editor for the University of Illinois Journal of Law, Technology & Policy and advanced out of the College of Law to a national moot court competition.
In addition to being licensed to practice law in both North and South Carolina, Sean has been admitted to the United States District Courts for the Western, Eastern, and Middle Districts of North Carolina and for the District of South Carolina. He has also been admitted to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Sean is one of the few Spanish-speaking employment law attorneys in the region, which allows him to better advance the interests of workers in Charlotte’s Hispanic community.
Sean was raised in Illinois, but today he proudly calls the Queen City home. He quickly fell in love with Charlotte and enjoys everything that it has to offer. When he’s not at the office, Sean enjoys playing basketball, running, cycling, reading, and traveling.
