In three years of being represented by the firm of Lancaster and St. Louis I was represented by each LeAnn Lancaster and Hilary St. Louis in matters pertaining to child custody and child support / arrears.
On two separate occasions, Hilary disappeared suddenly for several months at a time; not what you want in a family law or custody case.
In total, the firm recovered $0 of nearly $20k of child support arrears and other funds owed. This was all while all but promising the recovering of attorney fees which I found out after the fact which seems to be this firm’s bread and butter. It was only after consulting with multiple attorneys in both Mecklenburg and Cabarrus County that I found out how rare attorney fees are to be awarded ESPECIALLY in Cabarrus County.
The amount of gossip regarding other attorneys in Cabarrus County reminded me of being in high school. Hilary was even sloppy enough to accidentally copy me on an email between herself and opposing counsel, disparaging not only other attorneys but court staff and even judges; not something you like to see from someone who has access to sensitive information.
For additional context, Hilary often referred to me as an “A+ client”, referencing how I conducted myself as a client. I was always quick to provide any information or detail needed and followed Hilary’s advice and direction.
The most egregious act occurred when LeAnn represented me when I was facing a criminal contempt charge. This stemmed directly from Hilary’s suggestion to withhold visitation based on a safety issue involving my son’s mother. When it came time to have the case heard, LeAnn was woefully unprepared and it showed. While I was disappointed with the outcome, LeAnn made this exponentially worse. LeAnn failed in her duty to me as a client to ensure that it would be a 1 year suspended sentence, in line with what the judge communicated from the bench. LeAnn’s incompetence and lack of attention to detail resulted in the judgement being entered with no duration or end date to my sentence, effectively making it a 7 year sentence (until my son turns 18). I repeatedly asked for clarification on my length of sentence and was provided no answer until I was informed that it appeared I was “dissatisfied” and that they would be withdrawing from representing me. Rather than take responsibility for their actions and clean up the mess LeAnn directly made, the firm decided to abandon their client.
It seems that the firm is much more focused on damage control of their google reviews. If you would like a glimpse in how this firm conducts itself, look no further than their responses to negative Google reviews. Within those reviews there are far more negative reviews from past male clients; take from that data what you will.
The lack of maturity and overall incompetence exhibited by this firm over a three year period has led me to a strong recommendation to those seeking legal representation to avoid LeAnn Lancaster and Hilary St. Louis.
