I am an attorney who can help you with environmental laws, agricultural issues, government regulation, business transactions and estate planning. As second in command of North Carolina's environmental agency, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, I managed an organization with over 3,000 employees and a $1 Billion budget. I reviewed every contract over $25,000, monitored ethics compliance, worked through difficult staffing issues and expanded the roles of public-private partnerships.
In my role as an attorney for the agency, I oversaw the litigation of environmental lawsuits, personnel disputes, administrative challenges, and tort claims made by citizens injured by State action. I assisted in moving rules through the regulatory process and participated in several key land acquisitions for the State Park System.
Prior to joining NC DENR, I served as a litigator within the Environmental Division of the Attorney General's Office. My cases ranged from administrative to appellate with a heavy focus on environmental litigation.
In my spare time, I volunteer with Friends of State Parks, Inc. and am starting a small-scale, sustainable farm in Nash County.
