Carla graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Communications Studies. While at UNC, she was president of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She received her Juris Doctor degree from Campbell University.
In law school, Carla was selected as a member of the ABA Moot Court Team, National Trial Team, and ABA Criminal Justice Trial Team. She also served as president of Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity and as a representative of the Student Bar Association. Upon graduation, she received the Fred O. Dennis Award for outstanding representation of Campbell University School of Law to the community, profession, and public. She was also inducted into both the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, for her distinguished achievement in the Student Advocacy Program, and the National Order of Barristers.
Carla's practice areas include general civil litigation, premises liability, professional liability, and workers' compensation. She was a member of the faculty and speaker at the Advanced Workers' Compensation program sponsored by Sterling Education Services in March 2007. Carla is a member of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, and American, North Carolina, and Wake County Bar Associations. She is admitted to appear in all the trial and appellate courts of North Carolina, and in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
In 2012, Carla was selected by her peers to appear as a "Rising Star" in the North Carolina edition of Super Lawyers and in 2013 and 2014 she was listed in Best Lawyers in America for Workers’ Compensation-Employers. She has also earned the highest (AV-Rated) ranking awarded by Martindale-Hubbell. Carla also organizes and presents various seminars on workers' compensation and liability for clients.
Carla currently serves on the Young Lawyers Committee of the North Carolina Association for Defense Attorneys and was the co-chair of the annual Wake County Bar Association Young Lawyers' Clothing Drive in 2005, 2006 and 2007. She also volunteers as an advisor to Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority at UNC at Chapel Hill and Duke, and serves on the advisory board for the Eastern 4H Environmental Education Conference Center. She also serves as a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha National Public Relations/Crisis Communication Committee. In 2008, Carla was named Zeta Tua Alpha National Advisor of the Year, and in 2010, she was named UNC-Chapel Hill Alumni Advisor of the Year. She enjoys volunteering for Komen's, Race for the Cure Survivor's Tent, ARC of Orange County, and the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center.
