Lee was born in 1960 and grew up in Raleigh. In 1974, he moved with his family to the Knightdale area. Lee is the oldest of three children and graduated from East Wake High School in 1978. He attended Wake Technical College and eventually transferred to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Lee graduated from UNCC with a Criminal Justice degree in 1983.
In August of 1983, Lee joined the Raleigh Police Department and served there as a patrol officer until 1992. During his time with the RPD, Lee was promoted to the rank of Master Officer. He served as a field officer and hostage negotiator, along with the other duties of a patrol officer. Lee received his Advanced Law Enforcement Certification from the State of North Carolina in 1989. Lee was recognized by the Raleigh City Council for his outstanding professional achievement in 1992.
During his tenure with the RPD, Lee served as a patrol officer on each and every district within the city. This experience provided him with a unique insight and invaluable knowledge into the problems people from different walks of life face each day. Lee has taken that knowledge and understanding of people and relates them each day to his practice of law.
During his time serving the people of Raleigh, Lee enrolled at North Carolina Central University School of Law and earned his J.D. degree in 1991. In 1992, Lee began his employment with the North Carolina Attorney General's Office in the Law Enforcement Liaison Section. As an Assistant Attorney General, Lee represented the State of North Carolina in various criminal and law enforcement related issues and authored appellate briefs to the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
In 1994, Lee entered into private practice with Hughes and Associates. In 1997, Lee became a partner with the firm of Hughes and Turner and focused his practice primarily on criminal defense and law enforcement employment related issues. During his time in private practice, Lee has represented thousands of clients from all walks of life with charges ranging from traffic infractions to serious felonies.
In 2001, Lee opened his own criminal defense firm as a solo practicioner. For over ten years, Lee has handled each and every client that has sought his representation. Lee's daily appearances at the Wake County Court House have given him extensive insight and knowledge of the court system and the individuals that work within it.
Lee is married and has two daughters. They live in Zebulon area where his family breeds, raises, and shows American Quarter Horses nationally. He has a farm with numerous quarter horses, miniature horses, dogs, and cats. Lee is a member, trustee and Administrative Deacon of Zebulon Baptist Church and an avid fan of North Carolina State Wolfpack and the Boston Red Sox.
