I concentrate my practice in workers’ compensation defense and Medicare Secondary Payer Act compliance.

I handle a variety of workers’ compensation matters at all levels of the North Carolina Industrial Commission as well as state trial and appellate courts. My workers’ compensation practice includes defense of workers’ compensation cases of all types, including both traumatic workplace accidents/incidents and occupational exposure claims, and pursuing the subrogation rights of employers and insurers under the North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act. Much of my practice involves defending employers and carriers in workers’ compensation claims involving alleged exposure to asbestos and other toxic substances. I am a board certified specialist in North Carolina workers' compensation law and Martindale Hubbell AV-rated in workers' compensation.

I routinely consult clients on Medicare Secondary Payer Act compliance issues, both in workers’ compensation and civil liability claims. These matters include issues dealing with Medicare’s claim for reimbursement of conditional payments, Medicare set-asides and Medicare’s mandatory reporting requirements for both insurers and self-insureds. I enjoy and take pride in helping clients work through these issues to allow them to resolve cases which they might not otherwise be able to resolve and to avoid what can be substantial penalties for non-compliance.

I am originally from Benson, the home of Mule Days, and now live in Raleigh with my wife, Liz, daughter, Alice, and son, William. I enjoys running, reading and spending time with his family.
