Matt Gambale is a founding member of Counsel Carolina and leads the firm’s practice in criminal defense and insurance disputes. His father Vincent was an Assistant United States Attorney, who inspired and encouraged Matt to become a lawyer. Matt has represented clients in state and federal trial courts, the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of North Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In 2019 and again in 2020, Matt was named a Rising Star by North Carolina Super Lawyers® Magazine.

Matt grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and was an Echols Scholar at the University of Virginia where he earned a B.A. in History with Distinction. He returned to earn his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Matt is licensed in North Carolina. In his free time Matt enjoys running. As an undergraduate Matt was a varsity distance runner, and competed in both ACC and IC4A Championship finals.
