Michael James McFarland

Michael McFarland  has been licensed to practice law in North Carolina since 2015. He represents clients facing traffic, misdemeanor, and felony charges in North Carolina’s district and superior courts.

Michael attended college at Elon University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2012. After college, Michael attended Campbell University Adrian Wiggins School of Law. Michael graduated Cum Laude and received his Juris Doctor degree in 2015. Michael finished law school ranked 10th in his class of 148 students.

While in law school, Michael focused his learning on criminal defense by doing multiple internships with the Wake County Public Defender’s Office and an internship with the United States Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

After law school, Michael served as a volunteer clerk in the North Carolina Court of Appeals. In this position, Michael researched a wide variety of legal issues and wrote recommendations for how the Court should rule on different criminal and civil cases.

After the Court of Appeals, Michael worked as an Assistant District Attorney in North Carolina’s Eighth Prosecutorial District.

As an Assistant District Attorney, Michael prosecuted traffic, juvenile, misdemeanor, and felony crimes in district and superior courts. Since 2019, Michael has worked as a criminal defense attorney representing clients charged with traffic, misdemeanor, and felony crimes.

In his career as a prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney, Michael has worked on thousands of cases and tried many bench and jury trials. Having experience on both sides of the criminal justice system has been valuable to Michael because it helps him develop better strategies for winning trials and negotiating favorable plea deals. Michael understands the burden a criminal prosecution puts on a person’s life and seeks to help people achieve justice.

In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time with his family. He also loves travelling and is an avid sports fan.
