Breach of $300,000 contract and fraud: Plaintiff Phil Linza filed a lawsuit against his former employer, The Diamond Center, and its founder, Paul Copansky, for breach of contract and fraud when he was ... fired the day before he was to receive a $300,000 bonus. At the time of his termination Mr. Linza had been employed by The Diamond Center for 11 years, the last six of which serving as a supervisor in the Operations Division. Following a nine-day jury trial, the jury found that defendants had breached their bonus contract with Mr. Linza and had committed fraud by their promise to pay him a bonus. Judgment was entered for Mr. Linza for $500,000 in damages for defendants' breach of contract and fraud and $1 million in punitive damages. Mr. Linza was also awarded his attorney's fees and litigation costs. Defendants thereafter appealed the judgment and lost.
