Christopher O'Neil Grant

Mr. Grant is the Founder and Principal of COG Law Group and a seasoned attorney with more than twenty years of legal experience spanning government investigations, complex civil and commercial litigation, regulatory compliance, consumer finance and protection, debt collection defense, and debtors’ rights.

He brings a distinguished background in public service, having held senior roles as both a regulator and policymaker. Over the course of his government career, Mr. Grant advanced from Senior Attorney in the Litigation Division to Bureau Chief of Compliance & Monitoring.  In these roles, he oversaw regulatory enforcement, developed compliance strategies, and managed high-stakes investigations across a range of industries.

Prior to his government service, Mr. Grant practiced in New York City, representing individuals and small businesses in New York State Supreme Court and federal district courts in matters involving consumer protection and debt collection. He also advocated for clients in federal, state, and municipal administrative proceedings, including immigration and naturalization matters, state liquor authority compliance, and tax-related enforcement actions. In addition, he advised startups on labor and employment compliance, licensing, and immigration issues, and counseled non-bank financial services companies in the collections and recovery sector on licensing, risk mitigation, and adherence to federal and state consumer protection laws.

Drawing on his extensive government and industry experience, Mr. Grant offers clients practical, strategic guidance through complex regulatory frameworks and enforcement actions. He is particularly adept at helping small businesses navigate compliance challenges and government investigations, translating intricate legal and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable solutions.

Mr. Grant also leverages his background in the credit and collections industry to advocate for consumers facing abusive debt collection practices and predatory lending, providing informed and effective representation grounded in deep industry knowledge.
