Attorney Daniel J. Umlauf is a noted speaker on estate planning and Principal of Salem Law a premier estate planning and elder law firm in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Since 2010, we have helped individuals, families and business owners with their estate planning, elder law and probate matters, ranging from simple to complex.
Attorney Umlauf recognizes that estate, trust and probate matters are not only about assets; they are about protecting people and their rights and preserving family relationships. He understands the challenges, both personal and practical, that surround the death or incapacity of a loved one. Those challenges are often increased by the need to administer an estate or trust, obtain a guardianship or conservatorship, or deal with probate administration matters. Daniel is dedicated to presenting vision for the future, providing guidance, and pursuing justice for our clients after the loss of a loved one. He takes time to listen and understand his client’s concerns; and will recommend custom solutions to help his clients reach their desired goals. Attorney Umlauf provides comprehensive estate planning services that will guard against the unpredictable, help avoid probate, and leave instructions you feel confident about.
Daniel was born in Dallas, TX and began college at Texas A&M University before meeting his wife in Switzerland while spending a year abroad. Daniel was introduced to estate planning during law school at Wake Forest University while writing a grant to help prevent North Carolina farming families from losing their farms due to poor planning. He began Salem Law, in 2010, and practices exclusively in the areas of estate planning, wills, trusts, Medicaid planning, probate, powers of attorney, Veterans Benefits and elder law. He has 2 beautiful boys, lives downtown, attends Salem Presbyterian Church, serves as the President of the Stratford Rotary Club, does yoga and is active in the arts community of Winston-Salem.

I attended an estate planning seminar presented by Daniel Umlauf from Salem Law. Daniel was very knowledgeable, approachable and very easy to understand. After our consultation, we retained him to assist our family with some urgent financial matters regarding elder care, Medicaid and estate planning...
"I know Daniel from our mutual membership in the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. He is a great guy and an excellent attorney. I am happy to endorse him."
