Highly Unprofessional and Untrustworthy

Dr. Rawlings is a greedy, unprofessional, and untrustworthy attorney who should be avoided at all costs. He strung our family along for well over a year as we paid thousands of dollars in an attempt to hold a surgeon accountable for harm done to our young daughter. During this saga, Dr. Rawlings was ...rarely available to talk to us unless we owed him money. We paid thousands for a "demand letter" which was poorly written and littered with typos. We then paid thousands more to an expert witness Dr. Rawlings found who essentially took our money and ran. We then paid thousands more to find another expert witness willing to help us, but then Dr. Rawlings expected our family to pay 100% of the costs of litigation on top of a multi thousand dollar retainer fee AND a 40% contingency fee. When respectfully pressed on this arrangement, Dr. Rawlings promptly terminated his firm's relationship with our family. Dr. Rawlings looks out for one person and one person only - himself. If you or a family member have been injured and are in need of a compassionate and professional attorney to help, you would be wise to look elsewhere.

Is this a real law firm?

I, like others, contacted The Rawlings Law Firm as directed by the Bar Association. My initial phone consultation was $50. He said to write NCBH a "Demand Letter" and that term is a joke as it turns out, was normally $2000, but would do my letter for $1000. I knew this was what he probably always sai...d to potential clients but proceeded anyway after being encouraged that I had a good case. Same amount for reviewing medical records which I had to retrieve myself. I ignored my gut feeling about him because he was so encouraging. In his "demand" letter, he stated that if we did not hear back in 10 days, we would proceed with court filings and if no agreement was came to we would also proceed with a court case. I waited literally almost 5 weeks to hear back, not the 10 days. Before I hired Mr Rawlings, his firm constantly called to see if I wanted to proceed with the case. After I paid, I only heard once from them. When WFBH responded and did not consider my case one that merited monitary value, Mr Rawlings was done with me, he did not go to bat for me, nor did he even send WFBH a reply letter...nothing, he was done. I did not get my court date as promised, in fact I called and emailed his office NUMEROUS times afterward but guess what....NO RESPONSE back to me whatsoever. Not the least bit of courtesy to return my calls or emails. Another thing I found odd, why was it always a phone consult and never an in office face to face meeting. Always listen to your gut. My advice is to run from this so called law firm and dont waste your hard earned money!! If could give 0 stars I would!

Untrustworthy

Rawlings agreed to consultation re my surgical injury after I posted on the Bar's matching service. During what was supposed to be a 30 minute consult (actually he only gave me 15), he all but said that my case was very strong. No excuse for the level of injury I had suffered during a routine surgery..., he said. I was so encouraged and thus eager to proceed. Turns out, he wanted $1000 (on top of the 52 paid for initial consult) to "read medical records." I delivered these to him (which I have since learned is not how most lawyers do this - THEY get your records and work on contingency), paid him, and after he failed to appear for our follow-up appt to discuss his findings, he finally called 3 weeks later to say, too bad, no case. Why? Because I should have known the complications of this surgery, he said, and besides, I had signed a consent form. If this is what the case hinged on, why didn't he ask me up front if I'd signed one? Why did he even need to read my records? To add insult to injury, he mailed my records back with a letter saying that after his careful consideration, "[my] mother's case" wouldn't stand! He didn't even know who was injured. $1050 for nothing.

We endeavor to provide excellent service to everyone who contacts our office and apologize you did not feel we provided such service to you. However, due to the significant time Dr. Rawlings spends reviewing potential client's medical records our firm does not begin working on a contingency basis until he has determined that a client has a viable claim.

"I have had the opportunity to work with Charles on several cases and I find his joint knowledge of medicine and the law to be a valuable asset in litigating medical malpractice cases. He is able to speak with expert witnesses and defendant physicians in their own language. I highly recommend Charles both as an attorney and as co-counsel."

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"The extensive and impressive medical background Charles possesses affords him the unique ability to ascertain key components of a medical diagnosis, which allows Charles to more effectively advocate for clients he represents who have sustained serious injury due to medical negligence or some traumatic instance. Substantiating medical causation of injury of a client injured due to the negligence of a third party is the most important aspect of representing a client in an injury claim. I highly recommend Charles to attorneys in need of associating an attorney in representation of an individual who has sustained serious personal injury. Charles is also a tenacious advocate, who is not deterred in pursuing a client’s case simply due to the fact an insurance company denies the claim or takes a contrary view on valuation issues. In my opinion, any attorney that utilizes Charles will be extremely pleased with all aspects of his legal expertise in handling cases."
