Biography
I’m an Assistant Public Defender in Martinsburg, West Virginia, serving the 27th Judicial Circuit. Every day, I represent people at one of the most vulnerable points in their lives—those accused of crimes who cannot afford private counsel. I believe in treating every client with dignity, every case with care, and every courtroom appearance as an opportunity to stand up for fairness and constitutional rights.
Before joining the Public Defender’s Office, I founded The Law Office of Oliver Keene, PLLC, a fully remote firm focused on estate planning for families across Alabama and Virginia. Earlier in my career, I served with the U.S. Small Business Administration, helping disaster survivors rebuild their lives and livelihoods, and worked with Monroe Health Center, assisting with community outreach and access to care. Each of these experiences deepened my understanding of people—how fragile life can be, and how important it is that the legal system work for everyone, not just those who can afford it.
Becoming a public defender has always been my dream job. It’s not easy work—but it’s meaningful work. One of my clients once told me, “Not many people are nice to you when you’re in orange.” That moment has stayed with me ever since. It reminds me every day that the people I represent are more than the charges against them—they’re human beings who deserve respect, compassion, and someone willing to fight for them when the system won’t.
My goal as a defender is simple: to listen, to care, and to fight like hell for the people who have no one else in their corner.
