About Melissa
Biography
The most important part of my practice is the relationship I develop with each client during the course of a case. I strive to zealously and aggressively pursue the rights of my clients, while upholding high ethical standards. This comes from my upbringing in the small town of Fayetteville, West Virginia, as one of seven children, and the first in my family history to graduate from law school. I know what it’s like to have little and to have to work hard to survive. I have no fear of taking on big companies, those with all their resources, and fighting for the average person, and have dedicated my entire career to doing so. I have done so in the courts of West Virginia, New Jersey, and New York, among other states. In New Jersey, where there are tens of thousands of lawyers, I was certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, a distinction earned by less than one percent of the legal profession in New Jersey. The kid from Fayetteville was able to compete and be successful in the “big pond.” While I loved my time “up north” fighting for clients who were injured by pharmaceutical companies, doctors, hospitals, and corporations, I decided to return to West Virginia in 2008 to fight for the wonderful people in this state who need representation for wrongs committed against them. My participation in sports from high school through college has taught me that discipline, hard work, and teamwork will pay off if you persevere against those who have harmed others. My clients tell me that I’m not the “typical attorney,” and I take pride in such high praise. I truly get to know my clients on a personal level, which makes my representation of them even more effective. I am happy to take risks and play hardball when that is in the best interests of my clients. My love for bungee jumping seems to be evidence of that attitude!
