Sam Vance was born in New York, New York but he grew up in Roanoke,Virginia. Sam graduated from Duke University in 1992 with a degree in Public Policy Studies. Sam then graduated in 1999 from William and Mary School of Law and he was admitted to the Virginia State Bar that same year.
Prior to joining Overbey, Hawkins & Wright, Sam practiced law with the Roanoke law firms of Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore (1999 to 2001) and Glenn Feldmann Darby & Goodlatte (2002 to 2009). As well, Sam served as one of the in-house counsel attorneys for Advance Auto Parts, a Fortune 500 company, from 2009 to 2011. Sam’s continuing focus has been in the areas of civil practice, real estate and business law, and local government law. He also assists individuals in a wide variety of areas, with his client’s problem resolution as his chief goal. He spends significant time now helping clients recover for their injuries or helping families recover for the wrongful death of a loved one.
Sam is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Roanoke Bar Association, the Lynchburg Bar Association, Local Government Attorneys of Virginia, and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.
In addition to his law practice, Sam has served as a lecturer and moderator with Virginia Continuing Legal Education and most recently he has served as an Assistant Professor of Law at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, teaching corporate law and corporate organizations.
Sam is married to Tracy Hawkins Vance. They have three children: Jack, Clarice and Meredith. In addition to his family, his hobbies include fishing, running and travel.
