Candace Rivers

My family is NOT pleased with the performance of this lawyer as the executor for my in-laws estate. She does not answer emails, phone calls or FAX, and in order to have a one-sided correspondence with her, you have to use US Mail. How antiquated can you be in today's age of technology? She was hired ...by my in-laws, and prior to her death, my mother-in-law was trying to release Ms. Rivers as executor. We have been trying to find out the cost of her services, and we were told an accounting would be provided in September, 2012. Why do we have to wait so long to find out how her fees are calculated? I would not hire this lawyer, or recommend her to anyone.

Candace Rivers was the POA for my step mother and is now the executor of her estate. While my step mother was alive, Ms Rivers often took days to approve emergency medical needs and she did not keep the family advised of changes in my step mother's medical condition. She did not approve Hospice car...e until five weeks after the order was written resulting in my step mother experiencing needless suffering. She returned no phone calls to the family and she honored none of our requests (which we had to leave on her answering machine because her office stopped answering the phone when we called). The family house was for sale and Ms Rivers ignored two valid offers. She has since had the house appraised by her realtor and the price has been lowered to one of the offered prices. In addition, she is now advertising the house as a "month-to-month rental" in the local newspaper. Ms Rivers oversaw the move of my step mother's possessions from an assisted living facility back to her home. In process, furiture was destroyed. Ms Rivers invited the family to come to the house and take personal items following my step mother's death. We let her know the dates we would be at the house. The day before our arrival, Ms Rivers had the locks on the house changed so that we could not get in. This also prevented the realtor from showing the house to prospective buyers. Ms Rivers took my step mother's jewelry from the ALF "for safe keeping." At this time, she has not honored our requests to return it to the family. She has written a letter to the beneficiaries stating that we can purchase my dad's coin and stamp collections from the estate and that if we do not do so in two weeks, she will sell it. I cannot recommend this lawyer.
