Rocco Philip Thomas Columbus

As nice as Mr. Columbus was I did not find him that effective. For the two questions he asked me during the proceeding I feel as if I could have represented myself with the same result, yet, for less money. Seems as if the court was very easy on most of the defendants so I probably would have com...e away with the same result. I also feel as if I provided all the proof (copy of driving record, performance stats of vehicle, etc), my lawyer did little to prepare for the case. In fact, I had to call him (the day before the schedule court date) and remind him we still needed to complete the consult. Overall, not that effective for the fee paid.

Got a ticket in Hampton in Easton, VA doing 72/45. I had Pneumonia so he attended court for me. I ask for a status after court, no response. I get an email at midnight saying I was guilty for something I could have done without his services. Found guilty for the same charges even when I wouldn't have... gone. Ok, I didn't have my license suspended but I feel like I would have the same results if I went myself.

Back in 2018 I was appointed Rocco through the firm he was working in. I paid 2500 to have a lawyer fight a DUI I believed I had a great case in. I was also in the military at the time. After first contact Rocco assured me everything would be fine, we went over the details of the traffic stop and con...cluded our call this was in June 2018. Around august rocco informs me that my case has been postponed for a later date. I assume nothing of it, about three months go past and I ask Rocco for an update on my case. This dude has the nerve to call me and say “ Don’t freak out but there’s a warrant out for your arrest” WHAT, WTF do you mean. Why is my question and what do I tell my command. He tells me it’s for failure to appear at numerous cases. Cases which I had no knowledge of and that I assumed my LAWYER would be attending on my behalf. Not only did he never show up to any of my cases the warrant was 22 days old. The law firm refunded me my money and I had to plea to the dui because I had no lawyer . I am stillllllllll going through stuff because of this DUI that happened almost 3 years ago and could have been avoided had this imbecile just did his job. Lucky for him there isn’t a option for 0 stars

He will tell you , you have a case; then will bow down to the prosecution. He hardly advocated for me. There was no fight. I was New to the area and after a phone consult hired Rocco. After paying a couple grand I expected better representation. He's hard to get a hold of, isn't quick to return phone... calls, will tell you it's a solid case. When it came time for court he was like a stray dog, he cowered with his tail between his legs and couldn't act on his promises. I would have gotten the same results if I had represented myself. Money hungry liar. If you are considering retaining Rocco Columbus, please take your money somewhere else. There are tons of great attorneys in this area who see this profession as more than a paycheck. (Too little too late for me)

Wreckless driving charges are serious, but my case was by far the simplest that I could have imagined. As a NJ resident I didn't want to come all the way down, a 6 hour drive, for a court date, and knew that I had a better chance with a lawyer. So I payed him 600 dollars to represent me, and honestly... I think I could have went down there and done nothing and gotten the same result. The wreckless driving stuck and I still got a huge fine. I was waiting all day to hear back from him, but he didn't even think to let me know what happened until I asked him the next day. All in all it was not very professional from start to finish.
