Mark is a seasoned attorney with years of experience in all aspects of REAL ESTATE and BUSINESS LAW. Recognized as one of the leading eminent domain and real estate litigators in Virginia, he understands the substantial difficulties that can accompany a potential condemnation for property owners. In his eminent domain practice, Mark has represented a large variety of property owners and businesses against federal, state, local and other condemning authorities. He has handled cases involving the taking, and partial taking, of residential and commercial properties, including vacant parcels in excess of several hundred acres, professional office buildings, medical office buildings and medical parks, big box retailers, grocery stores and shopping centers, hotels, farms, mining lands, banks, fast food and other restaurants, gas station and convenience stores, churches, funeral homes, and community association properties. He also has provided substantial assistance to clients on relocation issues arising from a taking of property.
Mark’s active property rights practice complements his eminent domain practice. He has represented property owners in almost every type of property dispute, title claim, and land use matter, including adverse possession, easement disputes, riparian rights, partition actions, receiverships, foreclosures, title reformation claims, rezonings, and land use permits. This broad experience in property matters provides Mark with a substantial knowledge base from which to counsel clients, and most effectively and cost efficiently service their needs.
Mark’s practice also includes real estate transactions and finance. Mark is a frequent speaker on real property matters throughout the Commonwealth.

Highly Recommended
Mark Short recently represented me in a real estate dispute. I highly recommend Mark for any sort of property litigation or legal support you may need. He is professional, diligent, respected by his peers and incredibly creative, ethical and knowledgeable with respect to the law. You will be well ...
"Mark Short is an expert on real estate law. He has experience as both a litigator and counselor on complex real estate matters with a focus on eminent domain. He has acted as lead counsel for a $2,400,000 jury verdict in 2018 following a $120,000 offer by Virginia Department of Transportation. He has also been able to settle many eminent domain cases for amounts exceeding $1,000,000. I have had cases with Mark and was impressed with his attention to detail during discovery and in preparation for trial. In addition to receiving awards from legal publications, Mark has also been active in the local community. He has served as president of the Newport News Bar Association and on the executive committee of VA Chamber of Commerce."
