Carroll Arthur Rutter III

C. Arthur “Brother” Rutter III is a highly respected trial attorney with deep roots in Virginia and a long-standing commitment to representing individuals who have suffered serious injuries. Brother earned his undergraduate degree in English and American Literature from Harvard University before attending the University of Richmond School of Law (formerly the T.C. Williams School of Law). There, he distinguished himself academically, graduating first in his class. During law school, he served as Allen Chair Editor of the University of Richmond Law Review and received numerous academic awards and honors upon graduation.

Licensed to practice law in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida, Brother concentrates his practice on catastrophic personal injury litigation. He has secured multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements across several states in complex matters involving motor vehicle accidents, wrongful death, railroad injuries, and maritime and offshore claims. His extensive experience in maritime law has earned him membership in the Maritime Law Association and the designation of Proctor in Admiralty, recognizing his specialized expertise in representing injured seamen and maritime workers.

In addition to his litigation practice, Brother has held several prominent leadership and academic roles, including Adjunct Professor of Admiralty and Maritime Law at the University of Richmond School of Law, Chairman of the American Trial Lawyers Association Admiralty and Maritime Law Section, and service on multiple alumni and educational boards.
