Former Prosecutor | Experienced Trial Attorney
Mario Lorello received his B.A. in Government/International Politics and Communications from George Mason University, and graduated from the Univeristy of Virginia School of Law. Upon admission to the Virginia State Bar, Mr. Lorello served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable F.G. Rockwell, III. of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit. Mr. Lorello joined the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office where for over 10 years he gained vast trial experience, specializing in serious, complex criminal charges such as murder, sexual assaults, and crimes of violence. As a prosecutor, he tried hundreds of cases, including many jury trials, and several of his cases garnered international media . Lorello then entered into private practice with Zoby & Broccoletti.
He is licensed to practice in both state and federal court, and he is a member of the Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Portsmouth Bar Associations, and the Virginia State Bar. Mr. Lorello has taught courses on criminal law throughout Virginia and nationwide, primarily focusing on constitutional issues, navigating pre-trial motions to suppress, and the handling and introduction of forensic, digital, or technological evidence.
Mr. Lorello is passionate about criminal law and being in a courtroom. He has spent his entire career practicing criminal law. The in-depth knowledge he has about the nuances and intricacies of the law and the Constitution allow him to be a zealous advocate for his client’s rights. He will assess every facet of a case, relying on his wealth of experience as a prosecutor to find the weaknesses, or strengths, of the government’s case. Mr. Lorello is confident in the courtroom, recognizing that success for his clients calls for varied approaches at trial—sometimes aggressive, sometimes reserved. His trials often include the use of technology, as he strives to make arguments that resonate with judges and juries.
Throughout it all, Mr. Lorello believes in taking the time to explain every step and detail of the court process to his clients, recognizing that a good lawyer must also be a confident guide to their clients as they navigate an often unfamiliar system.
