Navigating Through The Patent Process - Make sure you have a good lawyer!
The Patent process can be scary, expensive and frustrating. It is well published that patent approval could take three to six years and there is no guarantee of success. However, our experience has been the complete opposite of that trend ….. largely due to Brian’s hard work with my little technology company over the past five years.
To date we have received five patents from the USPTO and have the like amount pending with the USPTO. Putting aside Brian’s vast experience and knowledge on the patent process, Brian’s greatest contribution to our process has been his ability to first, listen to what I am trying to accomplish and then have the courage to disagree with me if he feels that we are going down the wrong path. This is a quality that provides my company a sense of comfort and allows for more discussion and collaboration.
In summary, Brian’s “hands on approach” has greatly benefited my company and I recommend his services to anyone that is looking for this quality when choosing the proper patent attorney.
Brian is experienced and knowledgeable. His years in the business has created beneficial relationships that serve his clients as well. I would, and have, recommended Brian.
My law practice is dedicated to preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent application to help inventors protect their inventions.
19 years
I am a registered patent attorney (Registration Number 55,670) specializing in patent preparation and prosecution in a wide variety of technical areas, including: telecommunications, computer networking, computer gaming, semiconductors, fiber optics, aerospace, homeland security, medical systems and devices, and software.
My clients include large, mid-size, and small corporations, and many individual inventors.
I received my J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2004, where I served as Managing Editor of the University of Richmond Law Review and was a member of the McNeill Law Honor Society. I received my B.S. in Electrical Engineering, with a minor in Biomedical Engineering, from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1987. I am admitted to practice in Virginia and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Prior to law school, I worked for GE for 13 years in the areas of computer numerical control, drives systems, and factory automation. While at GE, I was trained as a Black Belt in GE's renowned Six Sigma quality initiative, a data-driven methodology for eliminating defects in any process. I was a nationally registered Paramedic, with over 15 years experience as an emergency medical service volunteer.

Trustworthy, Thorough, & Effective
Brian handled my design patent application. We consulted on strategy and timing, and he worked as needed to expedite the process to meet deadlines. I have continued to trust his advice, as there have been occasions in which he advised me against patent prosecution, when he could have simply charged a fee. I will continue to work with him in the future and would recommend him.

I highly recommend Brian
I have been working with Brian since October 2012 and have nothing but great things to say for what he has done for our company. Brian is patient when it comes to explaining some of the legal language and puts it in terms I can understand. I have found Brian to be very knowledgeable in the field of patent law and would highly suggest you consider contacting him for any of your work.

Wouldn't hesitate using Brian again and have recommended him to others...
Brian is great to work with. I had a VERY basic understanding of IP and the patent application process. Brian does a great job walking me through everything and actively contributes to our overall IP strategy. He takes our goals into consideration and helps us align our IP with what we need to gain from it. He is a strong partner, thorough and has delivered on 100% of the commitments and deadlines. I don't write reviews but Brian is worth my time to do it. I highly recommend using Brian for your IP needs.

All postive
Brian has worked with me so I could advance the patent process without using his valuable time, however he has guided me so as not to make mistakes.
