Professional and compassionate

Kitt Mattingly coached me through a complicated divorce with compassion, honesty, and expert advise. The process was streamlined and yielded optimal outcomes. I recommend Mattingly Family Law without reservation.

Extremely Knowledgable

Kim Mattingly worked closely with me to draft, edit and finalize a property settlement for my divorce. She was thorough in her questions and very knowledgeable on my rights and the laws in Virginia. She kept me informed every step of the process. Since finalizing the property settlement, Kim helpe...d write 2 addenda and filed my complaint for divorce. She is quick to respond to my questions by email or phone. Working with Kim and her staff was very pleasant even during a rather unpleasant time in my life.

Amicable/collaborative divorce

My ex husband and I decided to go with a collaborative process for our divorce. Kim was knowledgable, thorough and extremely helpful throughout. She was always professional and it was clear to me that she knew the procedures and laws we were dealing with. I always felt as though I was in good hand...s and had made the right choice.

Divorce attorney

Kim is knowledgeable in family law and divorce. She kept me informed and worked hard to protect my interests when the other attorney was bullish and slow to respond to issues concerning the case. Kim is professional and does respond to emails and calls. The only issue is the response time was a littl...e slow at times, but I would attribute that to a large case load at points. I would recommend Kim to anyone that has the unfortunate experience of going through a divorce.

Outstanding Custody Services for a father

I hired Ms. Mattingly not knowing much about her or her firm for two separate child custody cases. I was in the position of, oh know, I need legal representation but have no clue who can help. All I had was family and friends saying to me, "You're a father and the courts always cater to the mother..., so you're screwed." But I was determined to fight to see my children and have custody of them. In Virginia there are 3 types of custody: Sole Custody- 1 parent has full rights. Joint Custody- 1 parent has custody, other gets visitation as agreed upon or set by the courts. Shared Custody- both parents have close to or equal custody and time is split no more than 60/40, but typically 50/50 or as close to 50/50 as possible. I was from out-of-town which required Ms. Mattingly to travel. She was willing to do so, and after speaking with her, I felt relieved, but still concerned over the cliche of Mother's being catered to in court. We went to court for my first child, something that had never been previously contested. My child's mother wanted to move out-of-state and petitioned the court for full "physical" custody (ask Kim what that means so you understand if you do not know). We had been divorced for 8 years and always been able to work our issues out, but this was a test. My ex had a female lawyer and the judge was a female as well. I thought "Oh great, I am screwed". Our case was heard and Ms. Mattingly gave full account of my involvement with my child as well as what I could do for her and what I had done for her. She had even researched and cited previous case law with rulings that contradicted my ex and her lawyer's pleadings with the court. In the end, I ended up paying child support per state guidelines and the courts infamous "formula", but my child stayed in Virginia. I have shared custody of her. I could not have been more pleased with the legal representation I received. As far as case two goes- well it is still ongoing. Bottom Line: While Ms. Mattingly may seem a little dis-organized in speaking to you on the phone or in person, she is incredibly talented and is merely doing multiple tasks at once. She doesn't forget what you tell her and she does extensive research prior to a trial or court appearance. You will not pick a better lawyer than her. Her secretary Ann is the best person could have for that line of work as well.
