John Edward Davidson

I handle all employment matters, including wrongful discharge, unpaid overtime, non-compete cases, discrimination, harassment, grievance hearings, ERISA claims, executive employment and severance agreements, whistle-blowing, counseling, and many others.

I have been a Criminal Justice Act panel attorney for 17 years, and I currently serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals Capital Defense habeas panel. From these and my business law background, I have developed a significant federal and white-collar defense practice. I have handled dozens of alleged Ponzi-scheme cases, securities fraud cases, BATFE allegations, mail and wire fraud charges, insurance and bank fraud charges, mortgage fraud, and many others.

I represent doctors and other healthcare providers in all kinds of matter. Often, my first contact with a new client is when I review their employment contracts. I have helped many providers with disciplinary issues before the Department of Healthcare Professionals, non-compete lawsuits, hospital privileges disputes, and others.

At bottom, I am a courtroom lawyer. For years now, I have taught Trial Advocacy at the U.Va. Law School to law students, and I love going to court. While of course I am eager to get good pretrial settlements for clients whenever that is to their benefit, I am energized by the courtroom setting, both in trial and in appeals. I feel that my clients will be more likely to get good settlement offers if I work hard at keeping my courtroom skills sharp. So I do.
