Jacob Townsend Penrod

Jacob Penrod maintains a general civil practice. He regularly handles civil litigation and contractual matters for individuals and businesses throughout the Shenandoah Valley. Jacob is a creative, detail-oriented litigator, negotiator and problem solver.

Education

James Madison University (B.S., 1998, summa cum laude); Washington & Lee School of Law (J.D., 2003, cum laude).

Law Practice Experience

Jacob represents plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation, represents plaintiffs in personal injury cases, handles both residential and commercial real estate transactions, and assists businesses and organizations with entity formation, asset sales, contractual matters and collection matters. He is admitted to practice in the bankruptcy courts of the Western District of Virginia where he represents creditors in bankruptcy proceedings. Jacob continually branches out his practice to meet his clients' needs. He assists clients with wills, represents individuals in social security disability matters, represents individuals and businesses with employment cases, and has worked on cases in a variety of other practice areas.

Jacob began his legal career as a paralegal at Hoover Penrod in 1998, before attending law school at Washington and Lee University. While in law school, he interned with the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund in Washington, D.C. (through the Oliver White Hill Foundation) in 2001, and with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in Richmond, Virginia in 2002. After law school Jacob clerked for the Judges of the Rockingham County Circuit Court. He has been in private practice with Hoover Penrod PLC since 2004.

Professional Associations

Jacob is Presient of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Bar Association and a member of the Virginia State Bar.  He is also President of Crossroads to Brain Injury Recovery.  He served on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg - Rockingham County from 2005 to 2011. 

Personal Information

While not at work, Jacob can be found with his wife and pre-shcool-aged son causing havoc around the city of Harrisonburg. Jacob is an avid soccer player, and he co-founded the Shenandoah Valley Adult Soccer Master’s League. He enjoys collecting records and repairing, restoring and playing coin-operated arcade games and pinball machines.
