Highly Recommended

Some months ago, my son was arrested and charged with two counts of felony. It was a weekend, and my wife and I had absolutely no idea what to do. We had never been in a situation like this! A friend (whose husband is a retired lawyer) gave us the names of several attorneys; I received a call back fr...om one of the partners in Mr. Haywood's law firm almost immediately. My wife and I met with Brad soon after, and he also visited my son in jail. He guided us through the arraignment, bond motion, and several pre-trial hearings. He was calm, patient, and exceedingly helpful throughout the ordeal. In the end (it didn't go to trial), the felony charges were reduced to misdemeanors, and what might have been a lengthy incarceration ended up as minimal jail time and community service hours. If anyone asks me to recommend a lawyer to them, Brad's name is at the top of the list.

Brad Haywood

We hired Brad Haywood on two occasions in support of a teenage family member who had some tricky legal challenges. We're so grateful for Brad's work and support during a difficult time. Brad came to us on the recommendation of a friend of ours who is an attorney -- and he earned our full confidence. ... Expert advice, anticipated issues, responsive, calm, steady and reassuring. It was clear to us that Brad's colleagues and others within the legal community and court system respected him. Perhaps most importantly, Brad earned the confidence of our teenage family member and established a helpful rapport -- something that was not a given. It was a happy ending for our teenager, who is now doing great and has expressed interest in a career in legal services (undoubtedly inspired by Brad). We hope we'll never have occasion to put Brad to work again. But we'd go back to him again in a second if need be.

Charges Dropped

When I first sought Mr. Haywood's consultation I was most certain there was nothing that could be done to help my case. I had already settled in my mind that I'd be doing my time and simply needed an attorney to muddle through the logistics of the court system. Boy was I wrong! Mr. Haywood gathered ...information in reference to my case, then confidently and assertively communicated with the prosecutor and my charges were actually dropped! I was literally in shock. Mr. Haywood has been such a blessing to me and my family. He literally saved us from years of heartache and uncertainty.

"Brad Haywood is a skilled, intelligent, aggressive and caring attorney. Mr. Haywood was an attorney in the Alexandria Public Defender's Office when I clerked there over 10 years ago. Since that time, I've witnessed firsthand his dedication to finding and advancing the strongest legal arguments available and fighting for the best outcome for his clients. I fully endorse him in the areas of criminal defense, violent crime, appeals, and juvenile crime."

"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Brad professionally for a decade, since we were both Public Defenders. Brad is a brilliant and perceptive lawyer who soaks up whatever subject matter his cases put in front of him. His intellect is apparent from even a very short conversation with him. Brad also fights for his client without concern for whatever obstacles courts or prosecutors might pose. When I have questions about complex legal issues, I look for Brad. I would hire him to represent me without hesitation."

Relationship: Worked together on matter

"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Brad for eleven years, and I can say without hesitation he is one of the best defense attorneys in Northern Virginia. He spent the first eight years of his career at the Alexandria Public Defender's Office trying extremely difficult cases and earning a reputation as a very tough litigator who cares about his clients a lot. Since he joined private practice, he and I handled a very hard murder case together and it was obvious he is one of the best lawyers around to count on for that kind of case. He works tireless hours when pressing issues come up. The thing a lot of clients will notice about him is that he's great in court - persuasive, likable and forceful at the same time. A lot of attorney's passions tend to slow down once they get hired and paid. Brad is the opposite. He is not going to let people down."

"Brad Haywood is the lawyer I would call in the middle of the night if I ever had trouble with the law. As a graduate of one of the most prestigious law programs in the country he has the brains, but he backs it up with an incredible work ethic, and a lot of heart. He is more prepared than his opponents in court, and does not let his clients make the wrong choices. I cannot recommend him highly enough."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
