Dealt with the insurance company so I could get on with my life!

Before I met Mr. Ackerman, I had been dealing with the workers comp insurance company on my own for four+ years which included two surgeries and almost a year of physical therapy, only for my doctor to finally rule the damage for my work accident injury permanent. It had never been entirely pleasant ...dealing with the workers comp insurance company, (my employer's continued violations of my medical work restrictions were always much more stressful to deal with), but the insurance company had at least always been civil. Once my doctor ruled my injury was MMI (Maximum Medical Improvement) that changed. It was like a switch was flipped. The workers comp claims adjuster I had a civil and professional relationship with for years turned into an angry and aggressive bully. They kept refusing to pay for needed continued medical expenses, to make my employer follow my medical restrictions for my permanent disability, and for any training in order for me to be able to transition to a different job that would actually follow my medical restrictions. Even after just the first meeting with Mr. Ackerman I felt a great sense of relief. I had spoken to a couple of other attorneys before who had pressured me to file a medical malpractice suit because they said it would be easier to get money that way. As far as I know, my doctor did nothing wrong, and I find the thought of suing someone that did not do anything wrong morally repugnant. I did not just want to get a check. I wanted the workers comp insurance company to pay for the medical treatments they were supposed to and for my employer to follow my work restrictions as was required by law. While Mr. Ackerman was handling the insurance company, I was able to find another job that would follow all of my work restrictions. It did however pay less. The insurance company attempted to deny paying me the wage difference because I had "willing" left my last job, but Mr. Ackerman was able to get them to do so! He also continued to fight them each and every time they denied a medical treatment or appointment with my doctor. During the little over a year that we worked together he never pressured me to settle or sue. He was always within easy reach via email or phone. It then became the right time for me to seek a settlement and Mr. Ackerman was able to get them to almost TWICE their initial offer. I have already thanked him multiple times, but I wanted to take the time to write this review and thank him yet again. Because of him I can finally move on with my life that I feel was put on pause for the last 5 years. If you need an attorney that will actually do what is best for you, then I cannot recommend Mr. Ackerman enough!

I will refer him to anyone I encounter.

It was a pleasure to do business with an attorney who made me feel he was truly looking out for my best interest. If you want someone who will work hard for you, be fair, professional, consistent, communicate all aspects of your case, and fight for what he knows you deserve. Then Howard Ackerman is... the lawyer you need to retain. I had a small personal injury case, and having had to deal with a very shady personal injury lawyer in the past, I was reluctant to have to go through that ordeal again. When my chiropractor, Dr. Glen Loebig (McLean, Va) referred me to Mr. Ackerman I was not sure what to I would be walking into. I knew my chiropractor was a standup guy and hoped he would only associate with professionals of the same caliber. During our first meeting Mr. Ackerman listened to what I had to say, asked questions and provided me with his assessment of my case. He also informed me if he was not living up to my expectations on how I thought my case should be handled to let him know and he would work to meet them. I can confidently say, he exceeded my expectations.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
