Ahmed v. Ahmed
Sep 29, 2006OUTCOME: Won supervised visitation, PO, and Mahr enforcemen
This was a complex divorce involving 1) family violence and the need for a protective order (PO) as well as damage claims for assault and battery; 2) the enforcement of a Muslim marital property agre ... ement known as a Mehr agreement, and 3) issues of potential international kidnapping. Success was achieved at trial on all issues: The PO was granted based on family violence, and $50,000 damages were awarded for assault and battery. The court held that the Mehr agreement was enforceable. Supervised visitation was ordered due to the family violence and the threat of international kidnapping to the father's home country of Oman, a non-signatory to the Hague Convention.
