"Professor Warnken is one of the greatest legal minds in Maryland today. Period. He's forgotten more law than most people know. To say he's written the book on criminal procedure would actually be an accurate statement because he has. It is an honor to have been a former student of Professor Warnken's and it should be for any client to have such a strong advocate in their corner."

"I endorse this lawyer.Byron was my criminal law teacher in law school in 1979. He is brilliant and well respected by everyone in the legal community. He has dedicated his life to the practice of law.The practice of law in Maryland owes him a great debt and much gratitude"

"I endorse this lawyer. Byron taught criminal law to most practicing attorneys and judges in this state. He is an icon within his field. I believe that if faced with criminal accusations, most attorneys would choose Byron to represent themselves. He has also authored many changes in Maryland law, as he taught the members of the Legislature, too. His assistance out of the goodness of his heart for crime victims has been abundant and most admirable."

"I had the pleasure of being taught criminal procedure by this esteemed professor and Maryland legal legend while in law school. He literally wrote the book on Maryland Criminal Procedure...a three volume treatise. Highly recommended is an understatement."

Reprimand issued in MD, 2011

updated on 05/23/2013

Reprimand means the attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State warns the lawyer in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.

Byron’s comment:

“Both the 2011 and 2009 reprimands came from having an employee who stole money and hid client communications. When I was asked for a response from the Attorney Grievance Commission, the employee hid the correspondence. The employee has long since been terminated. No clients were harmed financially. I take full responsibility, as I must answer for my staff at all times. Sadly, before he was my employee, he was a long-time friend. That's obviously gone as well.”
