The solution for him was to make himself the executor. He did not pay bills in a timely matter; I found it settling for myself to pay the bills and than request a reimbursement. He did not provide regular reports or itemized checking account statements without being asked several times. He did not return phone calls in a timely matter, usually at least a week later.
