Philip C. Federico is a founding and senior partner with Schochor, Federico and Staton, P.A.
Mr. Federico is certified by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys and has lectured at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Union Memorial Hospital and other health care facilities, as well as the National Business Institute to Lawyers and Paralegals in Maryland. Because of his expertise in the field, Mr. Federico has been asked to testify before the Maryland Legislature on issues related to law, medicine and tort reform.
For the last 13 years, Mr. Federico has maintained an AV rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory™—the highest rating an attorney can receive for legal ability and ethical standards. He has also been named a Maryland Super Lawyer™ every year since 2006, and has been designated as one of the Top 100 Attorneys in Maryland™ in 2010 and 2011, by that organization.
Most recently, Mr. Federico was recognized as the 2014 Baltimore Medical Malpractice Law – Plaintiffs “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers®. Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is named “Lawyer of the Year,” making it a particularly significant accolade. Mr. Federico’s selection was based on the impressive voting averages he received during the exhaustive peer-review assessments Best Lawyers® conducts with thousands of leading lawyers each year, and receiving this designation reflects the high level of respect he has earned among others in the legal community for his abilities, professionalism, and integrity.
Mr. Federico became interested in medical malpractice law when—during his lacrosse and football careers at Johns Hopkins University—he suffered an injury that was not properly treated. That medical mistake prematurely ended his playing career. Marvin Ellin and Jon Schochor, then the most prominent Baltimore-area medical malpractice lawyers, took his case and eventually became professional mentors.
In addition to his eminent legal career, Mr. Federico is also active in his community. Since 1995, he has served as a trustee of the Boys' Latin School of Maryland (President in 2007-2008). He has also served on the Board of the Associated Italian American Charities of Maryland since 1993, receiving the "Bud Ecalano Award" in 1998. He now also serves on the Board of the Living Classroom Foundation.
Mr. Federico has a son, Torin, and lives with his wife Diane in Baltimore, Maryland.
