Child Custody cases involve determining "legal custody" of the child(ren) and "physical custody" of the child(ren). Legal custody can be either “joint” where major decisions are made jointly by both parents, or “sole” (made by one parent). Child custody cases also typically include child support. In addition, even if child custody is not contested (meaning the parents agree about custody) there may be issues pertaining to visitation and or access of the children with the non-custodial parent.

Contested divorces: may include issues of property, alimony, custody, visitation, use & possession of the marital home, monetary award, attorney fees. etc. Separation: including advice about your rights and responsibilities to negotiating/drafting Settlement Agreements. Military Divorce: there are particular issues that face military members/spouses when going through a divorce. I have specialized in military divorces for 6 years and discount my hourly rate for military members.

Child support matters are often a part of custody cases and/or divorce cases. However, a paternity and child support case can be initiated by the custodial parent through the local Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) – or by a similar agency in a different state (UIFSA). Both custodial parents and non-custodial parents should seek legal advice and help when they are seeking to establish child support or have been served with a case seeking to establish paternity and/or child support.
